The PhaseII Dual Stereo Phaser Plugin (AUv3) offers a versatile tool for creative audio processing, capable of running as a standalone application or within AU-compatible hosts such as Logic Pro, GarageBand, or AUM.
Overview
Designed as a dual stereo phasing processor, PhaseII provides a vintage-inspired aesthetic. It accommodates traditional wide stereo effects as well as more swirling, modulated textures by operating the independent phasing engines in various configurations—parallel or series. Predefined modes facilitate quick access to finely-tuned settings that range from subtle enhancements to extreme effects. The interface simplifies the often complex parameters associated with phasers, focusing on intuitive controls for Rate, Depth, Stereo Width, and optional Drive, enabling users to craft sounds with authentic analog warmth.
Controls
- Active: Bypasses the effect (Off) or toggles between processing modes:
- Stereo: Implements two independent phasers for left and right channels with LFOs phased 90° apart, modulating stereo width.
- Parallel: Combines two separate stereo phasers applied concurrently to the input, with LFO phase relationships contributing to the stereo image.
- Series: Sends audio through Phase I for initial processing, then through Phase II for compounded modulation, producing pronounced phase effects, especially at maximum width.
- Phase I/II: Activates or deactivates the respective phasing engine.
- Rate: Sets the LFO modulation frequency in Hz.
- Depth: Controls the intensity of the phase modulation.
- Mode: Selects among four settings that subtly or dramatically alter internal parameters—ranging from subtle to extreme effects.
Global controls include:
- Width: Adjusts stereo spread from ultra-wide to monaural, affecting only the processed (wet) signal while preserving the original dry signal.
- Drive: Adds analog-style saturation and overdrive to the effect path, imparting additional warmth.
- Mix: Balances dry and processed signals; 0% is fully dry, 100% fully processed with maximum phasing.
The processing stage employs soft limiting to prevent clipping caused by resonant peaks. This feature can introduce harmonic saturation reminiscent of vintage gear when input levels are high.
